Wow. I had a similar experience. Not so much not seeing my dad in three decades. My dad is a Vietnam Vet. So lets just say he picked up more than a few bad habbits when he got back. He and my mom were divorced when I was two and I saw him less and less frequently as I got older with a 4 and 6 year stint mixed in there.

Luckly enough was enough for him and he decided to finally get himself clean and will be enjoying his seventh year this June. The crazy thing is like a month or two before I got married he called me to reconnect with me. It had been like four years since we spoke but I swear to you it was the first lucid conversation we ever had. I was almost 27 years old.

Our relationship is not perfect. And neither is he. But he is my pop and tries hard to be as good of a person as he can be. Plus I know he loves me. Beats him being a jerk on purpose that is for sure. So good luck and I hope you find some happiness from the reunite. God Bless.

@Hicktown - Yes, it’s been a very looonnnnnggggg 4 months since the initial contact. Now all of a sudden it seems like yesterday.

@choc - Thanks for the hugs…I need many and I’ll definately need my breathing exercises along with a couple of glasses of wine! lol
