Our Elderly Deserve Better from Us

This video brought me to tears. It is of an unhinged young adult having a meltdown on a commuter train with the brunt of her anger directed towards an elderly black woman. The sad part is that for much of the video, the other passengers do nothing to assist the elderly woman. They just sit there silently sometimes laughing until finally another passenger speaks up. It speaks volumes as to how our society has degenerated and how we no longer value and protect the weakest among us. That could have been my mother, aunt or some other elderly loved one of mine and it’s sad to know that fellow citizens would tolerate such nonsense - it’s infuriating.
Here’s the news source.

It’s on a MARTA train in Atlanta. The girl was said to be bi-polar and has since been arrested.
I have to give it to gramps for holding her own. She was poised and unbothered by the ruckus.
I believe society is in fear of the youth amongst us. Children raising children and no one appears to be a role model worth modeling after.
My daughter and I discussed this mess when we first saw it. She was so upset that no one did anything. And we debated it for a while. My only point was that the girl did not touch the lady which was good, and if someone had jumped in there not knowing if she was packing something was putting more than one life at stake. Suppose she started shooting that would put more lives at stake. I of course am also mad that no one did anything but when the guy did say something we see how fast that spiraled downward. I don’t know what I would have done had I been there, but I do know that in my mind my family and my children’s safety comes first…
I pray that she gets help and I’m sure that the prison system will not be the kind of help that she needs…
Anyway,
i pray that your Mother’s Day was blessed!
Well, you know how I feel about this mess. It makes me more than angry. If she’s mentall ill she mos def needs help but it can be challenging it can be to get them help and convince them they need to stay on their meds.
My first thought was “what drugs is this chick on?” OOOH wee. That could have been one dangerous situation there. Who knows what this loon could have been capable of doing with how big of a fool she was acting if she was hyped up on drugs. I’ve heard from people who work security that depending on what drugs a person is on, they can totally overpower 2 big security guards.
I can’t fault people for not doing anything at first…maybe the thought was to let her wear herself out with all her antics. If I were there, I’d have tried to find some security person to deal with her. According to followup interviews, (if I heard it correctly) the elderly woman knew the girl and her family and knew she was troubled and isn’t going to press charges.
Someone sent me this video the other day in an email FWD laughing about it. I sent it back “reply all” telling them under no circumstances was this video funny to me. I used to commute to work when I worked downtown and had the circumstances been a little different, I’d probably be in jail. Not knowing the girl is bipolar and supposed to be on meds, if she’d jumped in the wrong person’s face on that train there could have been a homicide in car # _____ . Things like this happen everyday and we don’t always see it caught on tape. What if the girl had a gun, would it have been funny if she’d blown someones’ Gramma away? While all the politrickin’ is going on, this is the reason they need to stop the BSing and get EVERYone affordable healthcare. *sigh*
Hooray for the blackman that stood in defense of the elderly.
Once the blackman held the frontline on that sister she quickly regained her sanity realizing that she was actually about to be the victim.
