National Anthem Drama

July 2, 2008 by AJ

If I hire you to sing a specific song for me during an occasion, I expect you to know the words and sing the song….not sing a completely different song right? Why did this sistah agree to sing the national anthem then sing “Lift Every Voice and Sing”. I know she was trying to express herself artistically, but she is out of order. If you are asked to sing a specific song…sing the dayum song and stop tripping.

I’m sure some folks are trying to figure out how they can scare the white folks by attemping to tie this to the Obama campaign….SMDH.

I agree. Trying to make a statement I suppose. Totally out of order…and I didn’t like the way she sung it anyhow. But I just hate all the controversy it’s causing. She doesn’t have to apologize to anyone, nor be expected to.

…and sign the damn song in the right tune! Old girl “sang” the Black National Athem to the tune of the Star Spangled Banner…out of line!

Cannot figure out what this ‘tempest in a teapot’ is all about. Was she asked to sing the Star Spangled Banner and then switched before those hosting the program were aware of it?

Secondly, what does this have to do with Senator Obama? When a comedian I am familiar with sang the National Anthem and disgustedly placed her hands at the wrong place, she was critized. But no one tied her actions to the president in office at the time.

I cannot figure out specifically what was the intent behind the woman signing this song, but I get the feeling she is capable of talking for herself and so I will leave it for her to handle.

Want to move on to the real issues– such as the state of the economy! Yes, its the ‘economy’ stupid!
