Blind, Cancer & Diabetic Sufferer Tasered by Dayton Police

Well, here’s another story of a citizen being tasered – for supposedly resisting police. If you can’t handle a 49 year old woman suffering from multiple chronic illnesses, one of them being blindness then perhaps we need to rethink the training objectives and abilities of some of our officers.

Dayton police said they went to an apartment building on Fernwood Avenue looking for a robbery suspect and ended up tazing the man’s mother who is legally blind.

The incident happened on Fernwood Avenue Thursday.Police said 49-year-old Denise Harris refused to talk with them and became combative, striking out at an officer. According to officers, when they tried to arrest her, she resisted and they tased her.Neighors said the officers used unnecessary force on the blind woman, who is also suffering from diabetes and cancer.Sgt. Charles Anderson said Harris will be charged with assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest, but the incident is under investigation. See more and watch the video here.

  1. This taser thing is becoming an epidemic of sorts. How are they going use a taser on someone that they haven’t come to arrest. If she says I don’t want to answer questions, then she doesn’t have to, they weren’t after her. Next time they should follow proper procedure and arrest her, if they want to question her. Instead of making the woman upset because they were harassing her. You can’t even begin to defend this one.

  2. My Ex Husband and father of my 8 year old son was tased & died in ambulance in Mobile Alabama after seeking medical assistance for chest pains in January of this year… The police reports in all these taser cases claim that the people are combadent…..Hello when did we decide to let our police officers be the Judge & Jurry and in some cases play GOD ending the life of others… When are we as a nation going to wake up and take back the control of our basic human rights?

  3. this whole tazing thing is out of control. why don’t the people in power see this? Unbelievable…

  4. I heard about that incident and I find it very horrific. The sad reality is that it seems like a growing trend that needs to be addressed. Too many blacks have died as a result of being tasered and that is one too many lives lost.

  5. Pathetic. We need to start with the small things that are discriminatory and work our way up – lawsuits. I am taking every “Stop & Frisk” ordeal to court, every traffic ticket, every “stopped your car on routine check” stop. Perhaps we can get their attention sooner or later, sooner I hope. We let too many things slide without speaking out or acting out. Peace.
