Teacher Takes Scissors To 7 Year Old’s Braid

Well, I guess in today’s society you can practically do whatever you want to a black female and get away with it.  It’s reported that a  Milwalkee “teacher” became so frustrated with a 7 year old student, Lamya Cannon that she took scissors and cut her braid off in front of the classroom. Apparently Lamya was absentmindedly playing in her hair during class (typical behavior for children this age). School administrator’s are characterizing this incident (I consider it assault) as the teacher simply being “stressed” out due to budget constraints.

Lamya Cammon is angry, confused, and scared by the incident last week in which the apparently frustrated teacher cut one of her braids off after she wouldn’t stop playing with them in class.

Cammon, 7, sports a few dozen braids, but one is conspicuously absent.

“She told me to stop playing with it. Then cut it off and sent me back to my desk,” Cammon said.

Cammon’s a first-grader at Congress Elementary and said her teacher used a pair of classroom scissors to cut off one of the braids after she absent-mindedly kept playing with them. Read More

So I guess stress is now an acceptable justification for assault? If the mother of this student became stressed and took scissors to the teacher’s hair, would this behavior also be characterized as simply a result of “stress” or would it be assault? Since when are teachers allowed to CUT CHILDREN”S HAIR? I’ve never read that as a disciplinary action in the schools I’ve dealt with – have you?

This teacher knowingly and willfully laid hands on this child’s person with scissors to degrade and humiliate her in class. She should be brought up on charges. People have been charged for far less than this in our society. It just depends on who the victim is.

I’m not in the mood for sympathizers – so I’m not entertaining it today. “Oh but AJ, the teachers have so much to do”. You know what? That teacher CHOSE HER PROFESSION. She knew when she took this job that she would be dealing with 7 year old children that daydream. If she can’t deal with typical behavior such as inattentiveness by a 7 year old…perhaps the heffa needs to take up arms and go fight in Iraq. Then she can get a clue as to what STRESS is.

BTW- the teacher was “punished” with a $175 fine for “Disorderly Conduct”. Yes……that’s it. She takes scissors to a child’s head and is only charged with “Disorderly Conduct”. SMDH

AJ — This is a shame and this teacher should not have been allowed to remain in her classroom, while the child was moved. Her behavior warrants more than a $175 disorderly conduct ticket. The parents of the students in her class should be raising all kinds of hell about this.

I can understand the teacher being stressed. Today’s classrooms are for the most part, very stressful places. But I do not understand the actions she took.

A teacher is (or should be), first and foremost a professional. Therefore she should be able to deal with such situations in a professional manner. And she obviously did not.

This is one of those things when down the road the teacher does something really crazy, we look back and say that all the signals were there but we just missed them.

She should not be allowed to EVER work with children again. This child’s parents should be on news “magazines” across the country complaining about this and the slap on the wrist given the “teacher” as punishment. I’ve not checked today but as of yesterday the name of the teacher was not released. Other parents with children in her class should DEMAND their kids be moved to a more stable and professional teacher. What will she do the next time she gets “stressed”?

Seriously? I would have scalped the teacher then put it down to “stress”. I wonder if she would have been so understanding had it happened to her.

this is getting outta porption due to race, yet you should look at facts of all kids in schools, some teachers are fucked up to kids , and they get away, and it doesent matter what race you are, fucked up teachers mostaly do not discrimate.. but as for the mom id sue the teacher, and the school… so that the school would kick the teachers ass for the lady suing the school…. but id recomend suing the lady and forcing the school to make her pay with threats to sue…. and if all else fails you can blindside punch the teacher when you go pick your kid up , jus be friendly say hi and bamMMMMm

I wrote the Milwaukee School Board. This is horrible and I challenge everyone to email the School Board and let them know how YOU FEEL… their email address is governance@milwaukee.k12.wi.us

    Hi there,

The teacher did not receive sufficient punishment and the parents should sue. Even if they can not legally prove “pain and suffering” resulted from her actions, I believe that they should NOT let this incident go away.

Cutting someone’s hair in anger is absolutely an act of aggression. Grabbing scissors in anger WITHOUT cutting someone’s hair is an act of aggression. I feel that the parents should be sure that this incident is classified as a deliberate act of aggression against a child. That will give their complaint a lot more weight instead of just saying “we’re suing because our child is missing a braid.”

    Peace, blessings and DUNAMIS!
    Lisa
